NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Tennessee State freshman setter Triniti Jackson is wasting no time making her presence felt in the Ohio Valley Conference.
Jackson was named OVC Co-Rookie of the Week following an impressive three-match stretch that showcased her ability to orchestrate the Tigers’ offense while contributing across the stat sheet.
The freshman totaled 81 assists, 25 digs, 10 kills and seven blocks across 11 sets, averaging 7.36 assists and 2.27 digs per set during the stretch.
Jackson also attacked efficiently, hitting .333 with only one attacking error on 27 attempts.
The Longview, Texas, native delivered her biggest individual performance Thursday against Evansville, recording the first double-double of her collegiate career.
Jackson finished with career highs of 36 assists and 13 digs, while adding seven kills on 16 error-free attacks. She hit an impressive .438 in the match.
She followed that performance by producing 29 assists, four digs, two kills, two blocks and an ace in Saturday’s matchup with Evansville.
The freshman’s contributions have quickly established her as Tennessee State’s primary setter, giving the Tigers a young playmaker capable of controlling the tempo of the offense.
The OVC weekly honor is the first of Jackson’s collegiate career and Tennessee State’s first OVC weekly volleyball award of the season.
Tennessee State head coach Donika Sutton praised Jackson’s competitiveness and expressed excitement about the freshman’s continued development as she gains experience within the conference.
For Jackson, the recognition represents an early milestone in what Tennessee State hopes becomes a productive collegiate career.
And if her opening weeks are any indication, the freshman setter is already becoming an important piece of the Tigers’ future.
